In an effort to provide family fun and entertainment, the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, Inc. proudly sponsors several events yearly. Among these are: This is the Grand Daddy of them all. The 120th GILLESPIE COUNTY FAIR brings four action filled days and nights at the “oldest, continuously running county fair in Texas”. Whether it’s the carnival, the livestock and agricultural exhibits, or the arts & crafts, the thrill of horse racing or dancing under the hill country sky to the country show of a nationally known performer, this weekend is sure to bring smiles to the entire family. 2008 July 4th & 5th Horse Races and Dancing: This year the live horse racing pari-mutuel season will kick off with quarter horse and thoroughbred horse races on Friday & Saturday. July 4th & 5th. Post time is 1 p.m. on both days. Races run until about 6 p.m. Friday night you can enjoy Fredericksburg's fireworks display while dancing on the outdoor dance pavilion. Wager, eat, drink, dance and enjoy the fireworks at the Fair Grounds Class 3 track. There's plenty of free parking.
The summer season brings four weekends of live horse racing at the fairgrounds class 3 track. Live races feature quarter horse and thoroughbred racing as well as special races, trials and futurities. In addition to live horseracing, quarter horse, thoroughbred and greyhound races are simulcast to the Gillespie County Fairground’s beer garden from Texas tracks as well as out of state tracks. Annual GCFFA Scholarship Fest Good food, great entertainment, prize drawings and a “Cook-off” are all a part of the 12th annual Scholarship Fest scheduled for April 26th. Proceeds from this event go to the GCFFA Scholarship Fund, which benefits the youth of Gillespie County. Over $200,000 has been raised for scholarships. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with the “Cook-off” judging at 4 p.m. Tickets for this fun event are only sold in advance.
